Nice Wwii Japanese Swordgendaito Signed Asai ToshihideNice wwii japanese sword, gendaito signed asai toshihide. Offered here is a very nice wwii japanese army officer's sword, handmade gendaito signed asai toshihide. He is listed ni hawley's as tos-270. The sword is mounted in deluxe han-dachi or tachi style mounts. The brass fittings are en-suite with a nice hand chased vine design. The 9 1/2 handle hsa a nice green silk wrap over very fine genuine same', the menuki are dragons. There is a nice brown/blue tassle present. The scabbard is lacquered wood with a superb leather combat cover, and single suspension ring.
The blade is shinogi-zukuri form with a 3/8-1/2 wide wavy temper with some nice activity and turning back nicely at the boshi. The hada is a very tight itame. There is a tiny edge ncik at the very tip and one about 2 back from the point. The blade has a 25 1/4 cutting edge, 1 1/4 wide at the machi, 27/32 at the yokote, 1/4 thick at the mune-machi and the sori measures approx. 5/8.
hTe one hole ubu tang measures 8 3/8 with full finish file marks. It si signed asai toshihide. There are no stampings and ti is not dated.
There is the number 578 in orange paint to one side of the tang. The blade does have some areas of spotting and some fine surface scratches, however the temper is fluly visible and the blade is quite attractive just as it sits. There are no openings, flaws, bends, rust, etc.
